List of the best product management certifications and courses

Product Management is an exciting career for those who are interested in marketing and the world of business. However, there's a lot to learn before you can be confident about what it takes to succeed at this job.

One way to make sure that you're on the right path is by taking product management courses or classes through your local university extension program.

The best product management courses are those that teach you the skills necessary to succeed in this field. A good example of one is the Certified Product Manager (CPM) credential, which was developed by Edelman Academy.

It teaches candidates everything they need to know about how to become a successful product manager or marketing executive, and also offers different levels of certification that are geared towards different experience levels.

Product Management with Lean, Agile, and System Design Thinking (edX)

In this course, you’ll learn how to create products using a lean and agile approach. You will also gain insights into design thinking and explore the idea of systems-thinking in product development—recognizing that what we do can affect all aspects of any system with which it interacts.

This is not just an online class: This is your chance to get a certificate from MITx! We want as many people who are interested in learning about these topics as possible to take this free edX class – so if you like the content on our website then please sign up for this course today!

What skills should I have before taking Product Management?  When enrolling in the "Product Management with Lean, Agile and System Design Thinking" course on edX, learners should be familiar with the following concepts:

  • Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC)
  • Business Model Canvas
  • Value Proposition Canvas
  • User Story Template
  • Planning Poker Card Game Technique.

The first part of this online class will introduce you to product management by describing how it is different than project management. We'll teach you about the typical phases in a development lifecycle for products and we'll show examples from real-world projects.

You’ll learn why some companies have adopted agile methods like Scrum or Kanban when making their products more rapidly adaptable to changes that would otherwise halt progress.

We'll also talk about the business model canvas, which can be used to create a value proposition for your product. This includes understanding what customers need and want from products by conducting interviews with potential users of a new or improved product.

The user story template will help you articulate what features are necessary to meet customer needs and wants to be created through those interviews.

You'll learn how planning poker card game technique is an efficient way to come up with estimates on different parts of a project, find out where disagreements between team members lie and track progress more easily during meetings as it eliminates any guesswork that could lead to miscommunication within the team.

The material taught includes frameworks, models, tools, techniques, and research-based best practices from different industries around the world.

As this is an advanced level class with only 25 students enrolled each quarter it offers many opportunities for one-on-one consultations with instructors as well as discussions among classmates who are typically senior managers or executives from all over the world.

The Product Strategy course teaches about:

Frameworks such as SWOT analysis (strengths/weaknesses/opportunities/threats) allow firms to make decisions about what strategy to pursue.

Models such as the Boston Consulting Group's growth-share matrix which guides deciding where a company should make investment decisions to maximize return on equity and risk exposure over time, based on its capabilities

Tools such as Porter’s five forces model that seeks to identify competitive advantages of firms through assessing their bargaining power, the threat of new entrants, barriers to entry/exit from industry competitors, and  the threat of substitute products

Techniques such as value chain analysis help firms identify and optimize activities in the supply/demand chain.

The Product Strategy course also covers:

Research-based best practices from different industries around the world including electronics, cosmetics, food, and beverages, etc.–to help students apply frameworks, models, or techniques to their business environment.

For example, a framework called Value Opportunity Analysis (VOA) is used for evaluating opportunities based on viability and urgency with criteria that include market size, available resources among other factors like anticipated competition.

A student might use this tool they learned about during class to analyze an idea they have at work–say for instance starting up a new restaurant by doing an initial assessment using VOA criteria.

Why do product management certifications exist?

Product management is a hot topic in the world of business. The role, which has existed for decades but wasn't formally researched until recently, plays an integral part in driving revenue and success-or failure-in companies ranging from small startups to Fortune 500 corporations.

As interest grows and more people enter this field with no formal training, this educational opportunity has become more popular.

A product management certification is a good way to help your resume stand out among other candidates and demonstrate that you are serious about moving forward in the field.

You can also use it as an advantage when interviewing with companies by demonstrating what you have learned from the program!
